How Much Does Trail Life Cost?

There are two types of fees associated with Trail Life--a National Membership Fee and Local Troop Dues. The information below is typical but may change as material costs fluctuate. Prices are current as of June 1, 2022.

Before signing up online, we invite you to come and visit one of our troop meetings.

National Membership Fee

These fees are paid directly to Trail Life USA (TLUSA) for each individual youth and adult member when they submit their initial membership application to Trail Life USA, and annually thereafter on the anniversary of their membership.

Youth Fee - $30.70 per year  (Local Troop dues are paid separately; see below)
  • Member Fee:  This base fee provides for TLUSA operations
  • Annual Insurance Assessment:  This covers the TLUSA costs of accident and sickness coverage, general liability, and umbrella coverage

Registered Adult Fee - $35.68 per year.  This fee ONLY applies to adults who intend to REGISTER with TLUSA in order to serve as a Leader or on the Committee.
  • Member Fee:  This is an administrative fee that provides for TLUSA operations
  • Annual Insurance Assessment:  This covers the TLUSA costs for accident and sickness coverage, general liability, and umbrella coverage
  • Annual Youth Protection Assessment:  This covers the TLUSA costs of criminal background checks and youth protection training for adult members.

Local Troop Dues

Dues are used to defray the cost of materials and programs that the boys receive or participate in.  In the first year of membership, dues should be paid within 60 days of a boy joining the troop.  After the first year, payments are due by Sep 30.  The preferred method is a check written to "Hope Community Church"; note "Troop IN-1816" on the memo line.

Youth dues - $60.00 for the first year, $30.00 each subsequent year if no break in membership.

The "year" is defined as a "Troop Year" and runs from Sep 1 through Aug 31 of the following year.

Certain troop activities such as camping, sporting events, bowling, etc., will typically have an additional cost associated with them which can be offset through troop fundraising events, corporate gifts, and personal gifts/donations.


Parents and Adults, including our Adult leaders, do not pay local dues; dues paid for our boys are NEVER used for expenses for our Parents or Adults.  Adults who participate in "paid" activities are responsible for their own costs.
